Alcove shelving and cabinetry for a dining room

Designed to replace existing cabinets in a lower-ground dining room, this installation brings rhythm and warmth to a space defined by its chimney breast. The brief asked for structure and play — a composition that could enliven the room while remaining practical and balanced.

Each side of the alcove is balanced through careful spacing rather than symmetry, joined by a run of shelves that reads as one continuous sequence. The curved elements combine steam-bent and laminated Sapele, their movement setting the tone for the piece. Ash fronted shelving provides a lighter counterpoint and enhances the sense of depth. The result is a cohesive gesture across the wall — expresssive whilst retaining order and fucntion.
